Christopher Wenzel, MD, FACS

   Dr. Christopher Wenzel is a native of western North Carolina.  He is originally from Haywood
County and his father practiced as a general surgeon in the county for 30 years.  He is a 1991
graduate of Davidson College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  He then attended Duke
University Medical School which he completed in 1995.
   Following a year of general surgery internship, he completed a four year residency program in
otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Duke University Medical Center.  He had additional
training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery under the supervision of three facial plastic
surgeons – Drs. Louie Patseavouras, Charlie Finn, and Cynthia Gregg – in Greensboro, Chapel
Hill, and Raleigh.  In 2001, Dr. Wenzel completed board certification in Otolaryngology-Head and
Neck Surgery.
 Dr. Wenzel began private practice in Clyde, North Carolina, in 2000 and is affiliated with
Haywood Regional Medical Center where he is a member of the active staff and has served as
Chief of Surgery.  Dr. Wenzel  has also served on the active staff of the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, where he supervised residents in training.  He is a member
of the Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The American
College of Surgeons, and an active Member of the North Carolina and Haywood County Medical

Shannon Hunter, MD

   Dr. Shannon Hunter completed her Undergraduate and Medical School Education at UNC
Chapel Hill where she graduated from her medical school class summa cum laude.  While at UNC
Medical School she was a Distinguished Medical Scholar, Howard Holderness Fellow and an NIH
Grant recipient for student research.  She completed a four year residency program in
otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Duke University Medical Center and completed the
program in 2003.

   Dr Hunter is currently holds membership in the American Academy of Otolaryngology, North
Carolina Medical Society, and Haywood Medical Society. She is also a member of the North
Carolina Leadership College- sponsored by the NCMS Foundation.  She is Board Certified by the
North Carolina Medical Board and the Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
